I scanned 18 Indian eye and LASIK clinics for AI visibility

I scanned 18 real Indian eye, LASIK and cataract clinic websites for AI visibility, the same test I have run on dermatology, IVF, hair transplant, cosmetic surgery, hotel and restaurant sites. The median score came out to 87, putting eye clinics near the top of every vertical I have scanned. Most of these clinics are readable by AI answer engines. Almost none of them answer a patient's actual questions in a format those engines can quote.

When someone types 'LASIK cost in Bangalore' or 'is cataract surgery safe' into ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews, the answer engine is not browsing the internet the way a person does. It is pulling structured signals, schema markup, clean headings, FAQ blocks, clear page titles, from whichever sites it can parse cleanly and cite with confidence. If your clinic's homepage is a wall of unstructured text, you can rank in traditional search and still be invisible in an AI answer. I ran the same deterministic scan behind my free Report Card tool across 18 real Indian eye and LASIK clinic homepages, spanning Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and multi city chains, to see how this vertical stacks up.

The headline number: eye clinics are among the most readable verticals

The median AI visibility score across the 18 clinics was 87 out of 100. Scores ranged from 54 at the bottom to the high 90s at the top. Twelve of the 18 clinics scored an A grade (85 or above), four scored a B, and only two scored a C.

That puts eye and LASIK clinics near the top of every vertical I have scanned in this series. Hotels came in at a median of 76 and restaurants at 79, well below. Eye clinics sit right in the aesthetic medical group: they tie cosmetic surgery at 87, just behind dermatology at 89 and IVF clinics at 90. If you run an eye clinic, your peers are, on average, doing the structural work that makes a site legible to an AI system.

Structured data is basically solved here

17 of the 18 clinics I scanned have schema markup on their homepage. That is close to universal, and it is a real change from the pattern I have seen in hospitality and food. Hotels and restaurants both showed big structured data gaps in my earlier scans, eye clinics do not.

The one clinic without any structured data is also the lowest scorer in the whole set, a C at 54. So in this vertical, missing schema is not spread evenly across the pack, it is concentrated in the single worst performer. For the other 17, this is not where the AI visibility problem lives anymore.

The blind spot: almost nobody answers patient questions in FAQ schema

Only 1 of the 18 clinics has FAQPage schema on its homepage. The other 17 have none. This is the gap that matters most, because FAQ schema is exactly the format an AI engine prefers to lift and quote directly: a clean question, a clean answer, no parsing required.

Patients ask AI engines direct questions before they ever call a clinic: how much does LASIK cost, is cataract surgery painful, how long is the recovery, am I a good candidate. Almost every clinic in this scan is answering those questions somewhere on its site, in prose, for a human reader. Almost none of them are answering it in the structured form an AI engine can extract with confidence.

The smaller gaps in the sample:

  • 6 of 18 clinics do not have a clean, descriptive page title tag, so an AI engine sees a vague or missing signal for what the page is about.
  • 7 of 18 clinics are missing a single clear H1 heading, or have a broken one, making it harder for any engine to identify the page's main topic.
  • 15 of 18 clinics have open graph tags for social and link previews, 3 do not.

What to fix, for the sites still behind

  1. Add FAQPage schema answering the 5 to 8 questions patients actually ask: LASIK cost, cataract surgery safety, recovery time, candidacy and financing.
  2. Write one clean, specific page title tag per page instead of a generic clinic name.
  3. Give every page a single, clear H1 that states what the page is about.
  4. Add MedicalProcedure and Physician schema with the surgeon's real credentials, so AI engines can cite who is performing the procedure, not just the clinic name.

Method and limits

I scanned 18 real Indian eye, LASIK and cataract clinic homepages live, using the same deterministic engine that powers my free Report Card tool: structured data, FAQ schema, page titles, heading structure and open graph tags, among other checks. Every score in this study is aggregate only. No individual clinic is named, the numbers describe the pattern across all 18, recomputed directly from the scan, not estimated.

Frequently asked questions

What does an AI visibility score for an eye clinic actually measure?

It measures whether an AI answer engine like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google's AI Overviews can read and cite your site with confidence: structured data (schema markup), FAQ formatting, clean titles, clear headings and social tags. It is not a search ranking score, it is a machine readability score.

Why do eye clinics score higher than hotels or restaurants?

Structured data is close to universal in this vertical: 17 of the 18 clinics I scanned have schema markup, versus large gaps I found in hospitality and food. That alone pushes the median to 87, well above the 76 for hotels and 79 for restaurants in my earlier scans.

What is FAQPage schema and why does it matter for a clinic?

FAQPage schema is a structured markup format that presents a question and its answer in a way an AI engine can lift directly. Only 1 of the 18 clinics I scanned uses it, even though patients routinely ask AI tools about LASIK cost, cataract safety and recovery time. It is the single biggest opportunity in this vertical.
