I scanned 17 Indian dermatology clinics for AI visibility
I scanned 17 real Indian dermatology and skin clinic homepages on 20 July 2026 using my free Report Card tool: no JavaScript, homepage only, one snapshot. The median score came out to 89, tying hair transplant clinics as the highest scoring vertical I have tested. Structured data still separates the winners from the strugglers, and FAQ markup is almost nowhere to be found. Here is what the numbers show.
These are 17 real Indian dermatology and skin clinic homepages in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore, each scored once on 20 July 2026 with the same free Report Card engine and fixed signal list I use across every vertical in this series. The engine does not execute JavaScript, it only reads the homepage, and it takes one snapshot in time, so this is a machine readability check, not a review of the clinic or its doctors. A high score means an AI answer engine can parse the page easily. It says nothing about the quality of the medicine.
Tied for the highest scoring vertical I have scanned
The median score across the 17 sites is 89 out of 100, with scores ranging from 29 to 93. Eleven clinics scored an A, two a B, three a C and one an F. That median ties dermatology with hair transplant clinics (also 89) as the joint highest scoring vertical in this series, well ahead of my general clinic index (median 77), 25 hotels (median 76) and 15 restaurants (median 79).
The likely reason is competition. Dermatology and aesthetic treatments in India are a high ticket, paid search driven category: clinics fight for the same Google ad clicks as cosmetic surgery and hair transplant practices, and that fight tends to force basic site hygiene, title tags, meta descriptions, clean headings, even when nobody on staff has heard the term AEO. Good SEO habits carry over into AI readability almost by accident.
Structured data is still the line between readable and invisible
13 of the 17 sites carry structured data (schema markup), 4 do not, and those 4 are exactly the 4 lowest scorers in the whole set: 29, 52, 62 and 62. The 13 sites with structured data have a median score of 90. The 4 without have a median of 57. That is a 33 point gap from one piece of markup. In the hair transplant study, structured data had become close to universal across the sample; here it has not, so it is still doing real work as a divider between clinics an AI engine can parse and clinics it mostly cannot.
FAQ markup is almost entirely missing
Only 1 of the 17 sites has FAQ markup. The other 16 (94 percent) have none, the largest FAQ gap of any clinic type vertical I have scanned so far. FAQ markup is exactly the format that answers the questions patients actually type into an AI engine: what does acne treatment cost, does laser hair removal work on dark skin, how many sessions for pigmentation, what results should I expect. Right now almost none of these clinics have structured any of that, which means the AI engine is left to guess from paragraph text, or skip the site for a competitor's answer instead.
The smaller gaps in the sample:
- 2 of 17 have a missing or broken H1
- 4 of 17 have no Open Graph tags
- 3 of 17 have a title tag issue
What to fix, for the sites still behind
- Add FAQ markup answering the 4 to 6 questions patients actually ask an AI engine (treatment cost, sessions needed, downtime, suitability for your skin type). This is the single biggest opening in the whole sample, 16 of 17 clinics have none.
- If you are one of the 4 clinics without structured data, add it first. It is the difference between a median of 90 and a median of 57 in this dataset. My free schema generator will draft valid JSON-LD for you in a couple of minutes.
- Fix a missing or broken H1 if you have one. It is a small fix and 2 of 17 sites in this sample still get it wrong.
- Check your Open Graph tags and title tag are present and accurate; 4 sites are missing OG tags and 3 have a title tag issue, both cheap to fix once you know.
- Once structured data is live, keep it current. Stale prices or old service lists in your schema are worse than no schema, because they tell the AI engine something false about your clinic.

No JavaScript was executed, only the homepage was checked, and each score is a single snapshot in time, not a trend. Seventeen sites is a small sample, so treat the median and grade split as directional rather than definitive. Structured data and FAQ markup, though, are binary and verifiable: a site either has the markup or it does not, and that part of the finding does not depend on sample size.

The most likely reason is competition, not intent. Is structured data really still the deciding factor in this vertical?
Yes, in this sample it is. The 4 sites without structured data are the 4 lowest scorers out of all 17, with a median of 57 versus 90 for the 13 sites that have it. That is a bigger gap than I expected in a vertical this competitive, and it means the clinics without schema markup are leaving an easy, well understood fix on the table.
What is the single best fix if I only have time for one?
Add FAQ markup. Only 1 of the 17 clinics in this sample has it, so it is the most common gap and the one most directly tied to how AI engines answer patient questions. If your site has no structured data at all, do that first instead, since it affects a wider set of signals, but for most clinics here FAQ markup is the fastest lever with the least competition.
